Being an Effective Listener is a Superpower

"People are gifts, and the way you open them up is by asking them questions." – Ed Mylett.

As a coach, the cornerstone to helping others is to be a good listener!

Listening attentively is something I have been working on for a while, both in my personal and professional life.

I have been learning from Ed Mylett for several years, and this is my go-to video to sharpen my skills in listening and influencing people.

Of the 12 keys to listening explained by Ed, these are my top three:

👂 Do not interrupt ➡ cutting someone off while they’re speaking gives the impression that their thoughts have no importance and that my needs are greater than theirs.

👂 Match their words and gestures ➡ matching the other person’s pace of speaking, tonality, volume, and words frequently used by them helps to build connection and trust.

👂 Repeat back what you heard ➡ this shows that you’ve been actively listening and allows the other person to agree with or clarify what they have just shared with you.

Which other ways have helped you become a better listener?
