Whose Goals are YOUR Goals?

Updated: May 31, 2023

The cold, hard truth for those who have goals:

You’re probably not going to be happy once you achieve them.

Whenever people tell me they have a new goal in mind, my first response is:

"𝙒𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙜𝙤𝙖𝙡 𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙩?"

Immediately, I catch them off guard, rather than applauding them and learning more about it.

Why?

Many goals that we aspire to achieve are not what we truly want to accomplish.

The goal may have been planted by someone other than yourself. And those same people think they know what’s best for you.

It could be:

🤔 A close friend or a family member

🤔 Someone who you work closely with

🤔 Celebrities or society who pressure you to look or be a certain way

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 💊:

There is a good chance you will not feel any positivity about accomplishing a goal that doesn’t align with who you are, no matter how big or small it may be.

Perhaps you have already experienced this for yourself.

I've had my share of this experience on multiple occasions.

I’ve set goals just to impress others or gain their approval, while losing myself along the way.

My learning lesson? To re-evaluate each and every goal I make.

How? By asking myself 3️ questions:

💬 𝙒𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙜𝙤𝙖𝙡 𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙩, 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮? – if the answer is Mine, then I'm on the right path.

💬 𝙒𝙝𝙤 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙄 𝙗𝙚 𝙡𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙙𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙞𝙛 𝙄 𝙙𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙚𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙩? - another stab at the first question.

💬 𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙄 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝙞𝙛 𝙄 𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙚𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙩? – if my immediate thought is a negative one, it is a signal to reconsider that goal.

Choose your goals wisely. Drown out the noise. Listen to your intuition.
